About this policy

This policy explains browser technologies used by the Appleton Brooks website, operated by APPLETON BROOKS LTD. Cookies are small files placed on your device. Local storage is another way for a website to remember information in your browser. Similar privacy rules can apply to both.

Essential services and optional technologies

Some technologies are needed to provide a service you request, protect forms or remember privacy choices. Other technologies may support optional analytics, personalisation or advertising. The purpose of a technology determines how it should be controlled; being supplied by Shopify does not automatically make it essential.

Optional technologies that require consent remain inactive until you agree. You can reject optional technologies and later change your choice through Cookie preferences. Rejecting optional technologies does not prevent you from contacting us or requesting samples.

Project Palette and sample basket

The Project Palette uses the local storage key appletonBrooksProjectPalette to remember your saved tile selections in that browser. The sample basket uses appletonBrooksSampleBasket to remember sample selections while you prepare a request.

These entries do not have a fixed automatic expiry in the current website code. They remain until cleared by the website, you or your browser. The sample basket is cleared after a successful sample request. Browser settings can also remove saved website data. Clearing it may remove your saved selections. When you submit a request, the relevant selections are sent with the form.

Technology schedule

The following describes the website features and Shopify platform technologies relevant to this site. Which Shopify cookies are set depends on your choices, browser and the features you use; not every entry is set on every visit. Provider lifetimes below are published by Shopify and may be refreshed on later visits.

Appleton Brooks local storage: appletonBrooksProjectPalette remembers saved tiles; appletonBrooksProjectName remembers your project name; appletonBrooksSampleBasket remembers requested samples. These support features you choose to use, are not advertising identifiers and have no automatic expiry in the current code. Clear selections or browser site data to remove them. The sample basket clears after successful submission.

Shopify essential cookies: _shopify_essential supports core operation and security (up to one year); _shopify_test tests browser cookie support (one minute); _tracking_consent remembers privacy choices (up to one year); localization stores the country setting (up to one year). storefront_digest supports access to a password-protected store (up to one year).

Shopify optional analytics cookies: _shopify_s identifies a browsing session (30 minutes, refreshed with activity); _shopify_y and _shopify_analytics support analytics (up to one year). _landing_page and _orig_referrer record arrival and referral information (two weeks).

Shopify optional marketing storage: _shopify_marketing supports marketing features (up to one year). Shopify Network Intelligence is enabled; our Privacy Policy explains Shopify’s use of information across services and merchants.

For Shopify’s current cookie details, see https://www.shopify.com/legal/cookies. Our sample basket is a custom request feature and does not use Shopify checkout to take payment.

Shopify form protection may use hCaptcha to distinguish genuine requests from automated abuse. It can process device and interaction information for security. Further information about the service and any browser storage it uses is available at https://www.hcaptcha.com/privacy.

The optional Shopify categories are controlled by the consent banner shown to visitors in the United Kingdom. We do not currently have separate custom or app advertising pixels configured in Shopify.

Managing your choices

Use Cookie preferences on the website to review or change optional choices. You can also block or delete cookies and other site data through your browser settings. Blocking essential storage may affect features such as saved selections or forms. A privacy choice in one browser may not apply in another browser or device.

Changing your choice stops future optional use covered by that setting. You can separately delete data already stored in your browser. Our Privacy Policy explains your rights concerning personal information already received by us.
